Hawaii Whale Research Foundation

To Study is to learn...

To learn is to understand...

To understand is to appreciate...

To appreciate is to value...

To value is to love, and

To love is to save.

Hawaii Whale Research Foundation was founded in 1987 by Dr. Dan Salden and has studied Humpback Whale social affiliation each season since, each winter in Hawaiian waters and some summers in Alaskan waters.  The Foundation is a team of dedicated researchers, biologists, data analysts and support staff.  Please contact us if you are interested in working with HWRF or if you would like to learn more about HWRF’s activities.

HWRF’s web site offers a personal experience into our research and educational activities as they unfold during the course of the year. In addition to brief explanations of who we are, researcher biographies, whale information, and summaries of our research activity, this site provides you with still images, video, and acoustic data obtained in the field so that you can experience what it is like to research whales. During the research season, the site will include occasional blogs describing on-going activities.
